MM Clerk clarifies recommendation on replacement of Councillor Cameron

Dear Editor:

The opinion piece posted by Mr. Muston on March 14, 2016 entitled ‘Reader raises questions re replacement of Councillor Bernard Cameron’ contains quotes and statements that are incorrect. Attached is a copy of my report that was presented to Council on March 1, 2016. My report outlines options available to Council in accordance with the legislation – option (a): appointment and option (b): by-election. Within option (a), a recommendation was made that an appointment procedure be considered. As an alternative, the Municipality‘s past practice is noted; that is, to appoint the first runner up.

I am copying the Gazette on this to make a correction to the article that ran last week as this appears to be the source from which Mr. Muston gathered his misinformation.

I am respectfully requesting that a correction be posted promptly.

Regards,

Shawna Stone, Clerk
