I want to add my voice to those objecting to the elimination of Don Maynard Park. This land was ceded to the Town as part of a subdivision agreement with the developer at the time. And I see no justification for its elimination. I use it frequently and would be sad to see it go. It is the only park in its corner of the Gale subdivision. Spending money to upgrade a park on the other side of town is clearly not a satisfactory substitute.
In addition, it is my understanding that the size of the park was essentially doubled when Minto ceded to the Town a piece of land in their Harold Street development which is behind Maynard Park and adjacent to the property of Holy Name of Mary School. It appears on the plans of the town as a separate property and has its own separate access from Harold Street. One would have to ask what would be done with this piece of locked-in land? Would it fall by default to the Catholic School Board or have they offered to pay for it at fair market value?
I think an explanation is in order.
