The Almonte Lawn Bowling Club had a picture perfect day on Friday, 20 June to welcome Dr. David Stevenson and his dental staff to their Club. The seven office members arrived at the club at 9:00AM to begin three hours of enjoyment as they were introduced to the sport of lawn bowling under the instruction of seasoned club members, Denis Davignon and Cliff Bennett.
The staff was instructed on the fundamentals of the game and then had an opportunity to practice their newly honed skills during a few fun games before relaxing in the club house with refreshments provided by the club social committee. After a short rest and recuperation they returned to the green for their grand finale. Formed into two teams of four each (a Club member joined to make for eight players) they played four ends to determine the champs for the day. With a final score of 4 to 3 the winning team edged out the other to finish the morning with great fanfare.
All thoroughly enjoyed themselves and departed expressing the comment of a possible dental office competition with another community dental office.
Established in 1911 the Club, continues to thrive and welcomes new members. During June, July and August the Club plays Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings beginning at 6:30 PM. Members arrived at 6:15 PM to set up the rinks and prepare for the evening fun. Teams are selected each evening from those who attend the Club. Monday is “jitney night” as each player puts $2.00 in the pot and the highest scoring team ‘split’ the pot before refreshments in the Club house.
The only equipment guests and members need bring to the game is a pair of flat soled shoes, although sneakers are quite acceptable. The Club has an inventory of bowls that new and current members may use. However, the Club is constantly looking to increase our bowl inventory so any former players who wish to donate bowls to the Club or sell their bowls to a member please do not hesitate to contact Bob Thomson at 613-256 5534 or Al Jones at 613-256-9997.
The Club wishes to thank Donna Dyck & Bill Muir for their donation of bowls to the Club. Your donation is very much appreciated.
