Cell phone tower at the fairgrounds

I’m so disappointed about the planned cell tower beside the Almonte Fairgrounds.  See this information. We wrote letters of concern to the town several years ago and I had hoped another location had been chosen or that with the recent installation near Blakeney and Bell Fibe, there is enough service for the area.

The lack of clear communication throughout this process about a decision which affects the aesthetics of our town is thoroughly disappointing. With a height of 147 feet/45 metres, (our town hall is listed as 90′) I anticipate it will ruin the skyline from many vantage points. If an artist’s rendering was available to show the size and location with views from various points such as the beach, the bridges, the impact would be clear.  I’m not sure what lighting will be used, though I’ve often seen a blinking light from the tower located off Hwy 49.

I am supportive and sympathetic to the needs of the North Lanark Agricultural Society, and I expect the lease will provide needed revenue.  However I feel it’s at great cost to our community. If funding is needed, I wish they would have opened up discussion about this option and appealed to our community to see if other fundraising avenues would be available.

I’m not sure if anything could be done to stop the progress at this point and perhaps I’m too disheartened to pursue it.  I just feel citizens should be informed about what is planned within town boundaries.

A concerned Almontonian
