Each year Mississippi Mills Bicycle Month encourages local residents to dust off their bikes and ride. They also encourage citizens from both Lanark and Renfrew to enter the Silver Chain Challenge during the month of June. This friendly challenge pits community against community and county against county to see who can ride the most in the month of June.
In an effort to bolster ridership in Lanark County this year, Bicycle Month offered a draw to Lanark County participants who posted rides at www.silverchainchallenge.ca of a $350 prize of bicycle merchandise purchased at Almonte Bicycle Works. The winner this year was Gary Nicholson of Almonte. Gary is an active senior who moved to town a couple of years ago. He enjoys riding the quiet country roads around Mississippi Mills.
