‘Honouring Our Veterans’ Banner Program Information

The purpose of the ‘Honouring Our Veterans’ Banner Program is to:

• Recognize and honour our Veterans and current serving members of the Canadian,
Allied, or Commonwealth Forces who have a tie to the communities within the
Municipality of Mississippi Mills.
• Promote Remembrance in our community, remembrance of their service and
sacrifice, and remembering all gave some, some gave all.

Through displaying banners of Veterans, we hope to engage the community in honouring
and remembering local Veterans through an initiative that will ensure continued
recognition and respect throughout future generations.

Veterans’ banners will be displayed throughout our Municipality from Legion Week in
September until November 15th. The sponsor of the banner, normally family members, will
pay $300 to have the banner designed, printed and displayed (includes taxes, shipping,
hardware, installation, takedown, and storage).

All banners include the same flags, even if they served another allied country.
Veterans honoured in Mississippi Mills have a tie to the communities within the
Municipality of Mississippi Mills.

The Banner Committee will look after installation, takedown, cleaning, and storage.
Legion membership by the sponsor is not a requirement for participation in the banner
program.

Each Veteran’s banner will include their photo (in uniform), name, military affiliation, and
banner’s sponsor. Each banner will also include a combined Canadian and British Flag at
the top of the banner, and at the bottom, the words “Lest We Forget” and the Almonte
Legion logo.
Information to include on the application form:
• Branch of Service – Army, Air Force, Navy, Merchant Marine.
• Service – for example: WWI, WWII, Boer, Crimea, Korea, Balkan, Gulf, Bosnia,
Croatia, Afghanistan, UN Peacekeeping, NATO, DART.
• Short description of military history – info is for Legion’s purpose only; info will not
be included on banner.
• Rank – rank will not be part of the banners as we want all Veterans to be recognized
as equals.
• Photograph – Photo to be submitted must be in a high resolution 5” x 7” (minimum
size) portrait size photo of the person in uniform. Digital photos in pdf or similar
format of 300 dpi or better can also be submitted.
• Name of the sponsor – family, friend(s), community sponsors are suitable.
Open the Banner Project Application Form (MS Word) or Banner Project Application Form
(PDF). Paper versions are also available at the Almonte Legion (100 Bridge Street, Almonte,ON K0A 1A0) when the Legion is open.

If you would like to participate and honour a Veteran with a banner, submit the application
form completed with a high resolution 5” x 7” (minimum size) portrait style photograph of
the Veteran in uniform to the Almonte Legion, Branch 240, to the attention of Mary
Rozenberg and a cheque of $300 made payable to RCL Branch 240 – Honour Our Veterans
Banner Program. A digital photo in pdf or similar format of 300 dpi or better is acceptable
and can be emailed to the following address: mary@interlinkx.com

Prior to sending any banner for printing, the Sponsor will review and approve spelling.
The deadline for participation / submitting your application for 2025 along with an
acceptable photograph and cheque will be Wednesday April 30, 2025. New submissions
will be accepted starting in January of each year as this will be an ongoing legacy project
that will pay tribute to all Canadian and Allied Veterans. As the banner program grows,
banners may hang in other Mississippi Mills’ communities.

Although the banners technically belong to the sponsors, all banners will be stored at the
Almonte Legion so they will be together and easily available when it’s time to put the
banners up around Mississippi Mills each year.

As a community that supports and honours its Veterans through community and school
activities, this program will put a face on the names of Veterans and keep their legacies
alive. The company that produces the banners donates a portion of each banner sale to
support Homeless Veteran Programs.

We will also be accepting applications in the Almonte Legion Lounge on Saturday January
18, 2025 between 8:30am and 11:00am during the Legion Breakfast. A photo scanner will
be available at that time to digitize your photo if necessary.

Best Regards in Volunteer Service
