Lawn Bowling Club ends season on high note

The Almonte Lawn Bowling Club wrapped up its season with a fabulous pot-luck dinner and their Annual General Meeting on the 28 Sep.

This year was a very special year for many reasons including the successful application for a Trillium grant that allowed the Club to renovate its facilities and purchase much needed new equipment. In addition, the Club was honoured by it’s selection to host the 88th annual Governor’s General Tournament that saw Quebec and Ontario competing for trophies in Men’s and Women’s Fours and Men’s and Women’s Novice Singles.

The Club, while hosting two Invitational tournaments for other Clubs in District 16, also found the time to introduce approximately 150 young people from local day camps to the sport. There are certainly some future bowlers amongst this young group.

Once again our Bowling Marathon throughout the summer, organized by Bob Thomson, proved popular with members, This year the husband and wife team of Luciana and Sandra Bernes, both new bowlers, walked away with top prizes. Three of our Club members also joined the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association “Big Shot Pin” Club by bowling a perfect ‘end’ during a game; Cecil Dubois during the Governor’s General Play-downs and Jan Peterson (on her birthday) together with Brenda Richards during regular night bowling.

Ending a great season was the fact that we increased our total membership with 13 new members for a full membership of 66.
