The Corridor Gallery at the Almonte library is pleased to present artwork by Luna Blackwood (Melissa Labrecque), an Indigenous multimedia artist and photographer. Luna’s work has a strong focus on realism and abstract realism. She loves to draw and paint in darker tones with highly detailed subjects that portray deep emotions, and incorporates animals into her pieces, often wolves or ravens. Much of her artwork includes hidden Indigenous elements, and she has recently adopted a woodland style with bold lines and vibrant colours.
Her goal is to portray emotion through her pieces and to connect to people on a deeper level, allowing her to heal through art.
At the age of fourteen, she started her artistic career with graphite realism and began selling commission drawings by fifteen. After years of developing her skills, she moved on to charcoal and abstract realism painting in her early twenties. She has recently expanded her skills to include digital art, animation, photoshop, and photography.
Luna now teaches private art workshops known as “HeARTworks”, where she shares her experience and connects with her audience regarding struggles from her own personal life. The point of HeARTworks is learning to heal through art. Allowing others to feel their emotions and let them know that life still has meaning, even if they don’t see it.
