Mary Ann Sadler –obituary

Sadler (nee Horton), Mary Ann Veronica

June 16, 1937 – June 4, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the death of our cherished and much loved Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Mary Ann Sadler. In her 88th year, she died peacefully in hospital on June 4, 2025 from complications following multiple mini-strokes.

Mary Ann is predeceased by her husband Gordon Stuart Sadler, her sister Kathleen Horton and her parents Arthur M. Horton and Teresa Alice Horton (nee Byrne). She is survived by her children Susan Sadler-Lemieux and Tom Sadler, and grandchildren Laura, Alicia (Zachary) and Joseph. Mary Ann loved her children and grandchildren deeply and supported them generously. She found joy too as “Nanny” to her nine great grandchildren. Mary Ann Horton grew up on “the island” in Almonte and met her husband at high school there. They lived in the same home in Kanata for 58 years. Together with the help of brothers, in-laws and friends, they also built a cottage which had been enjoyed by their growing family and friends for over 60 years. They also enjoyed the support and many celebrations with extended family in Almonte, Pakenham, Carleton Place and Ottawa. Mary Ann was known as an innately shy and private person (although avid and loud Senators fan) who always put her husband, family, and friends above herself. Her legacy will live on in our wonderful memories of her and the love, wisdom, and guidance she shared.

At her request, no photo is shared and no visitation will be held. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 9 at 4 pm at Holy Name of Mary RC Church in Almonte for a gravesite burial at St. Mary’s cemetery in Almonte (Hwy 29). Reception to celebrate her life to be held between 5 and 8 pm at The Almonte Legion Hall (100 Bridge St). Any donations in her memory would be appreciated. With consideration to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
