Million-dollar drug bust in Carleton Place and Kanata

OPP SEIZES OVER $ONE MILLION WORTH OF ILLEGAL CANNABIS PRODUCTS

(OTTAWA, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) – led Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team (PJFCET) have seized over one million dollars worth of illegal cannabis products in Kanata and Carleton Place.

On September 29, 2021, the PJFCET, along with members of the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit, OPP Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit, Ottawa OPP Detachment members, OPP Emergency Response Team and the Ottawa Police Tactical Unit executed search warrants at an industrial facility on Emily Street in Carleton Place and at a residence on Huntsman Crescent in Kanata.

Officers seized over 700-cannabis plants, nearly over 88-kilograms (nearly 200 pounds) of processed cannabis, 54-kilograms (120-pounds) of cannabis shake, large quantities of cannabis resin and cannabis edibles, several thousand dollars in cash, as well as growing and processing equipment. Four residents of Ottawa were arrested.

Ronald TREMPE, age 63, is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of distributing – Cannabis Act sec. 9(2)
  • Alter or offer to alter the chemical or physical properties of cannabis by the use of an organic solvent – CA sec. 12(1)(b)
  • Cultivate, propagate or harvest a cannabis plant that is from seed or plant material that is illicit cannabis – CA sec. 12(4)(a)
  • Cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at place that is not their dwelling house – CA sec. 12(6)(a)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (opioid) – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act sec. 4(1)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 – Criminal Code sec. 354(1)(a).

Marianne SLOAN, age 53 of Ottawa is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of distributing – Cannabis Act sec. 9(2)
  • Obtain or offer to obtain cannabis by any method or process – CA sec. 12(1)(a)
  • Cultivate, propagate or harvest a cannabis plant that is from seed or plant material that is illicit cannabis – CA sec. 12(4)(a)
  • Cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling house – CA sec. 12(6)(a)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (opioid) – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act sec 4(1)

Both of these accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on November 16, 2021.

Kayley TREMPE, age 22, and Justin MOORE, age 28, are each charged under section 9(2) of the Cannabis Act with possession for the purpose of trafficking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on November 18, 2021.
