“My Mississippi Mills” public art project

“My Mississippi Mills” public art project reflects the entire community and is on display at both library branches

The library community art project brings people together. Displaying art in public places and making it accessible to everyone inspires engagement and a feeling of belonging

What does Mississippi Mills look like? How does it make you feel? Your library holds the answers! Hundreds and hundreds of bunting pieces turned into small artworks by Mississippi Mills community members of all ages are now strung on lines and on exhibit at both branches of Mississippi Mills Public Library (MMPL).

Why is public art important to a healthy community? Why at the library?

Public art reflects a community and its surroundings. Your library strives for a similar vision: an informed, engaged, creative & connected community. Everyone can create art and when everyone is invited to create, the results help express a community’s strengths and values – like playfulness! When community members see themselves reflected in social spaces, they feel a sense of respect and belonging.

Looking up at the cute, funny and beautiful pieces of art is like getting a big community hug,” Christine Row, CEO MMPL

Learn how your neighbours and our town’s children see your community! The theme for the public art project  is “My Mississippi Mills” (in celebration of our bicentennial year). Thanks to a small group of women – our “cutting bee” volunteers – who produced 740 pieces at the launch of this project, it’s not too late to contribute your effort*. Visit the library.

MMPL is a welcoming, safe space for all. The library’s mission is to inspire lifelong learning, provide equitable access to information, advance knowledge and strengthen our community. www.missmillslibrary.com
