The Mississippi RiverWatchers have organized a clean-up of the river between Almonte and Appleton.
We planned to do it last year, but the weather that day was as bad as it could get — heavy rain with high winds. So we had to cancel.
The weather this Saturday looks more congenial. We plan to go upstream in a flotilla of canoes, kayaks and other boats, to clean up the trash and debris that has accumulated along the banks of our river.
Bring your canoes, kayaks and boats by 8:30-9:00 am to the Old Town Hall parking lot. There is a boat ramp there. Bags will be provided and there will be two rafts anchored in the river between Almonte and Appleton to receive large items and full bags. When you get to Appleton, a return shuttle will take you and your boat back to the Old Town Hall area.
Don’t have a boat, canoe or kayak? Please show up anyway — chances are someone will be able to take you with them. This is a great opportunity to “show our river some love”.
