Ontario Senior Regional Games -2017

Thirty-Three seniors from District 7A (North Lanark) traveled to Deep River and Pembroke on August 16 to compete in the Regional Games held on every second year replacing the Ontario wide games which will be held in Mississauga next summer. Lawn Bowling and Five Pin Bowling were held in Deep River and all the card games, shuffleboard, carpet bowling, darts and golf were in Pembroke.

Marion Timmins and Fay Burgess won gold in Bid Euchre and Guy Chaput, Frank Osclamp, Nick Odynski, John Lapensee and Ray Veillleux won gold in Bowling. A  banquet was held in the Pembroke Memorial Center to round out the day. Everyone else who competed had a good time and have many suggestions for ways to improve when our district hosts the games in 2019.

Since the Eastern region covers all the way from Deep River to the St. Lawrence River, numbers of participants were down due to travel distance for many .When the games are held here, we will be more central with events in Almonte, Carleton Place and Beckwith so we can expect several hundred competitors.A committee of Barry & Carole Pascoe, Marion Timmins, Ivor Morris, Carole Edwards, George Wilson and Lila Duffy will be meeting with recreation and municipal reps to draft the budget and figure out which venues will be booked for 2019. Geoffrey Johnson, Program Manager of OSGA +55 Games will be there to give guidance since it is a major undertaking.

Congratulations to all the winners !
