Several hundred people gathered today at the Almonte Cenotaph to commemorate those who lost their lives in past wars.

Skies were mostly sunny and the winds gusting hard as the names were read of local men killed in World Wars I and II, and wreaths were laid beneath the statue honouring Lieutenant Alex Rosamond, heir to the Rosamond Woollen Company, who died in the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

It was as always a sombre and moving service.
