Riverfront Estates residents join forces to build dock

by Cameron Shields, community liaison officer for Riverfront Estates

Some residents of Riverfront Estates got together to build a temporary dock until we can get the permanent dock that has been allocated by the municipality. We can apply for the allocation this fall, to get it into the 2019 budget.

The dock is at 300 Spring Street. Working closely with the planning department, parks and recreation and the MVCA, we came up with our design and had it approved by the planning department. Calvin Murphy of the parks and recreation division was kind enough to fund the building permit for us.

We launched the dock towards the end of May and it has been a huge success. We now have created a GoFundMe page to try and recoup some of the expenses that we spent on the dock — only the material costs, as all the labour was donated by residents of Riverfront Estates.
