Following a successful spring season, Riversong Players continues to build momentum with exciting opportunities for performers and audiences of all ages.
In June, Riversong Players presented Godspell at the Almonte Old Town Hall. Performed by a cast of just nine actors ranging in age and experience, the production offered audiences a fresh and imaginative interpretation of the beloved musical. Despite the challenges that often accompany community theatre, the production showcased the creativity, dedication, and collaboration of local performers, musicians, volunteers, and technical crew.
Building on that success, Riversong Players recently held auditions for Finding Neverland, welcoming more than 40 young performers to audition for the enchanting musical inspired by the story behind Peter Pan. The overwhelming response reflects the growing enthusiasm for community theatre in Mississippi Mills and the surrounding area. The company looks forward to bringing this magical production to the stage later this season.
This summer, Riversong Players’ Youth Summer Intensive is preparing to launch with The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. Designed for young performers ages 8–16, the eight-week intensive combines acting, singing, movement, ensemble work, and character development while fostering confidence, creativity, and meaningful connections. The program will culminate in public performances at the Almonte Old Town Hall from September 18–20, 2026.
With only a few spaces remaining in the intensive, interested families are encouraged to register soon.
Tickets are also now on sale for The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. Based on Rick Riordan’s bestselling novel, the musical follows Percy Jackson as he discovers he is the son of a Greek god and embarks on an epic quest filled with adventure, humour, friendship, and self-discovery. Audiences of all ages will enjoy this energetic production, brought to life by the talented participants of the Youth Summer Intensive.
Looking ahead, Riversong Players is also developing a variety of community arts experiences this summer and fall, including new collaborations with Celtfest, Puppets Up and the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum. These initiatives will offer additional opportunities for community members to engage with theatre through performances, workshops, and interactive programming.
“Community theatre is about so much more than putting on a show,” says Artistic Director Beth Robertson. “It’s about creating spaces where people can discover their creativity, build confidence, form meaningful connections, and tell stories together. We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our community and excited to continue creating opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the arts.”
