‘Shattered: Time in Pieces’ at ADHS

by Ella Wattie

The Almonte and District High School Drama Club’s production of Shattered: Time in Pieces is a hilarious and gripping story following four museum employees who discover an artifact that can send them back in time. They set off on a journey to collect the missing shards of a vase, each one from a different point in history and myth. Along the way, they meet a series of gods, faeries, and historical figures, each one with a different task for them to complete.

Written by four returning actors with ideas generated by the whole drama club, this production follows the traditions of devised theatre and collective creation. Maggie Boughner, a returning actor, has taken on a wide variety of roles in this production. Not only is she acting, but she’s also been working hard on sound effects and music… as well as writing and directing several scenes in the show! She says, “it’s been great to get more experience having a couple of leadership positions within the drama club.” Maggie remembers being nervous during her first show. She recounts, “my castmates made me feel so welcome. I hope that I’ve been able to help create that welcome for others.”

Maeva Kenny, another returning face to the ADHS Drama Club, is playing one of the principal roles in this year’s production. After her first role in last year’s show, Maeva returned eager for more. She says, “I met a lot of nice people and got to do some really fun things.” No wonder she enjoys it so much! Though this year’s production is drastically different from previous years, hopes are still high. Maeva says, “I think the script is really incredible. The writers put a lot of effort into it, and I think they did a really great job.”

With a devoted crew of students, ranging from grades 7-12, progress is now running smoothly as the Cappies show approaches. The Cappies is an international theatrical review program that celebrates high school theatre, which culminates in an award show at the end of the year. After receiving seven nominations last year, as well as three awards for their production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: High School Edition, everyone is hoping for another successful year.

Performances of this year’s hilarious and time-bending show will take place at the Almonte Old Town Hall from April 23rd-25th and April 30th-May 2nd with curtains opening at 7:30pm, and matinee performances on April 26th and May 3rd, curtains opening at 2:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased for $15 online, in the main office at ADHS, at Baker Bob’s, and at the door if not already sold out.
