Special Exhibits at Almonte Fair This Year

pot bellied pig

This year there are several new and interesting animals to see at Almonte Fair from July 17-19. In addition to the new animals Little Ray’s Reptiles are bringing from Australia, Garth Greene and family have a 3 month old Llama/Alpaca baby(called a cria), a Pot Bellied Pig and a Four Horned Jacob Sheep along with a Clydesdale foal and mare which everyone can meet in the Education barn.He also plans to have chickens and ducklings hatching at fair time. The Grain Farmers of Ontario host an interactive trailer full of games and a corn wagon with farm toys.

On Saturday there are children’s games and a tent sponsored by the Cornerstone Community Church with diverse activities as well as Spring Action Trampoline demos, so although the Gable Bros Midway provides lots of thrills, a family can be entertained all day without great expense.

Most of the regular farm animals such as dairy and beef cattle and light horses, who pay the bills, will be shown on Saturday with the Heavy Horse Show on Sunday. An annual Pigeon Show brings out quite a display of exotic looking birds.

This year the 4-H clubs celebrate 100 years with the Entertainment Tent filled with their demos and displays on Sunday. All present 4-Her’s over 13 are admitted for half price that day.

Volunteers have put in hundreds of hours to produce the oldest local festival (157 years) so come out and enjoy meeting your old friends and making new ones. Check for details at www.almontefair.ca.
