Recently, Amelia and I purchased a new wood stove at one of Mississippi Mills’ newest businesses, Friendly Fires. This store is an example of a caring and contributing corporate citizen.Friendly Fires is a small chain featuring wood-burning appliances, BBQs and gas-fired fireplaces, with stores in Peterborough, Cobourg and Kingston. Brad Leonard, co-owner, began searching for location in our town. When he learned that Reliable Heating in Pakenham closed its doors in February, he offered jobs to the laid-off staff, even though he had no location here yet.
In the spring, the firm purchased the Valley Plaza, a small, derelict mall on Highway 7 west of Carleton Place. Mississippi Mills staff worked closely with Mr. Leonard and local manager, Paul Macintosh, to transform the old mall from an eyesore to an asset.
When we decided to upgrade wood stove to a larger model, we looked nowhere else. Our patronage is our thank you.
