Yikes: Two of three Almonte bridges closed over the summer

Starting June 4 and lasting until October, it’s going to be complicated crossing the Mississippi River in Almonte.

This note has been sent to local residents:

Please be advised that National Structures 2011 INC. has been awarded the contract for the rehabilitation of the Back and Short Bridges for the Municipality of Mississippi Mills.

As a result, the Back Bridge will be closed to all traffic on June 4, and will reopen approximately on August 23.

Short Bridge will be closed to traffic on August 23, and will reopen to traffic on October 18.

According to an article we ran back in 2014, the work on the spans includes:

  • repair girder ends
  • rehabilitate bridge deck and integral concrete components
  • replace waterproofing and wear surface
  • replace traffic barriers and parapet walls
