To The Council of Mississippi Mills and Residents,
My name is Fraser Scantlebury, and I am asking for your consideration to assume the current vacancy on the Council for Almonte Ward. Having been a resident of Mississippi Mills for 23 years – first in Ramsay Township, and now in Almonte – I have experienced the many joys of living in a rural based, small town community. My two children grew up here, and I want to ensure that residents continue to enjoy the lifestyle and opportunities for growth that they experienced. A personal goal would be to work as a member on Council, and with community members, to ensure that all residents of the Municipality of Mississippi Mills have the opportunity to share in the pleasures of living in a welcoming community such as ours, to the best of their abilities.
In addition to being a resident, I am currently the Executive Director of the United Way Lanark County. This position provides me with a unique understanding and perspective of the many issues facing Mississippi Mills, and our County. In my previous career, I provided marketing and leadership consulting for local and national organizations, including instruction on governance issues for non-profit boards. During that time, I developed extensive negotiation and listening skills, and over the years have worked closely with organizations of all sizes, assisting them to achieve the goals they are looking to realize, using consensus-building efforts.
I have very strong roots in our community, including extensive involvement with many local organizations. In the past, I have served on the Municipality’s Community and Economic Development Committee, and am currently the Chair of the Almonte Old Town Hall Advisory Board. Other local organizations I am currently involved with include:
- Vice-President & Director, Board of Directors, Mississippi Valery Textile Museum
- Chair, Board of Directors, Young Awards Foundation
- Chair, Valley Players of Almonte
- Member/Volunteer, The Hub
- Volunteer with Puppets Up! since 2006
- Volunteer with the Terry Fox Run for Cancer in Almonte since 2002
In the past, my other local involvement and efforts included:
- Vice-Chair and Member, Board of Directors, Mills Community Support Corporation – 2005-2012
- Past President, Rotary Club of Carleton Place and Mississippi Mills Club
- Coach, Almonte Soccer Club, Park Soccer U6 & U7 (2 years each, boys & girls); U8/9/10/11 & 13 Girls and U10 Boys teams
- Alumni, Canadian Ski Patrol System
Thank you for considering my application – I look forward to speaking in person with members of the Council on April 12th.
Sincerely,

Fraser Scantlebury
