The Christmas pickle has become a bit of a tradition in the United States. It was thought to have originated in Germany but now it seems to have originated in the USA. a pickle, or a decoration in the shape of a pickle is hidden in a Christmas tree, and the finder receives a reward and good luck for the new year. If the finder is a child, he/she will get an extra present from Santa.- A pomander is a ball perforated for sweet smelling spices to make closets and drawers smell fragrant. In a famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth I she is painted holding a pomander in her hand. Nowadays pomanders are usually made of an apple or orange perforated with cloves.
