ALMONTE FAIR UPDATES FOR 2016
Almonte Fair is fast approaching opening at 4 pm on Friday July 15 with the Demo Derby that night and “The Derringers” in the Entertainment Tent. Not only does the Almonte Fair have a new look for the grandstand, but many other changes are on deck.
The new midway, Carter Shows, promises many new rides,some geared to older kids, but also a “Late Night Madness”on Saturday night when the rides are $15 from 7-11 pm . Also Toonie Sunday means every ride is only $2 and 4-H members get a $5 discount with proof of membership . Check the website- almontefair.ca for local stores selling advance bracelets .
Carter Shows is sponsoring 3 classes in the culinary section offering a total of $165 for the best apple pie, butter tarts and Freezer Strawberry Jam so check page 39 in the prize book for details. They get to keep the first prize entry in each class but this amount of money is bound to attract extra entries.
This year all exhibits will be on the main floor for easier accessibility. Prize books are available in local stores or online at the website where you can also enter.
The Ag-Tent will feature farm animals and demos to help urban families interact with the animals and learn about the production of food from a farmer’s perspective. It will be near Gate 2 at the Main Hall for easy access.
The Big Red Barn will have a focus on youth with a Teen Dance Friday night, Kids Zone activities, Little Ray’s Reptiles, Team T&J, Spin Cycle on Saturday and “Conquer the Concrete” on Sunday when supporters of the Almonte Skateboard Park will share their equipment and expertise to kids interested in skate boards ,etc.
Cinderella will “Meet & Greet” on Saturday and Elsa from Frozen will present “Storytime” in the tent by the main hall on Sunday.
The popular Children’s Races return on Saturday as well as the Family Fun Zone & Gospel Band from Cornerstone Church.
Saturday the livestock shows feature the dairy, light horse, sheep and pigeons while the Heavy Horse and beef show are on Sunday.
New this year is the “Almonte’s Got Talent Showcase” with the winners entertaining at the grandstand before the Demo Derby. Lawn Tractor Pull on Saturday afternoon and Chain Saw Carving demos near the main hall on Sunday.
Musical selections have been curated by Christian Poulsen and feature a variety of folk,bluegrass, rock & country infused bands on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon providing “Music on the Mississippi” .Spectators can watch the Horse Show from the comfort of the Entertainment Tent while listening to live music from 1 until 5pm.
