Almonte Home Furniture owners help child's wish come true

The Borrowmans, owners of the Almonte/ Perth Home Furniture stores, know firsthand the stress of having a child diagnosed with a high-risk, life-threatening illness.

When their third child Phoenix was only seven weeks old, she was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle. She experienced multiple cardiac arrests in her first few months of life and was in desperate need of a heart transplant. Miraculously, a heart donor was found and the lifesaving operation was performed; Phoenix had a new heart.

The heart that Phoenix received is a very special heart; the donor was a well-loved two and a half year old American girl that had drowned in a heartbreaking accident. Through a series of coincidences, Robin and Adrian Borrowman actually had the opportunity meet the heart donor’s family two years ago. And last year, that donor family reunited with the Borrowman’s once again on Phoenix’s wish: A Disney Cruise in February (heart month).

The wish experience is one that this family is very passionate about. They have experienced the hope a wish can bring, they have experience the joy, and they have shared these memories with family and friends.

In June when the Borrowmans were asked if they and their staff at Almonte Home Furniture would be willing to share their expertise in home décor to assist Children’s Wish in decorating another child’s dream room, the whole team jumped onboard. With designers Kim and Brenda at the helm, they met with their young wish child, took detailed notes and developed a plan that reflected his passion for movies, games, sports and spending time with family and friends.

The big reveal came just in time for this wish child’s 10th birthday. While he was at school, the staff from Almonte Home Furniture were busy furnishing and putting the finishing touches on the ultimate games room.

This room had it all, from the gaming chairs and Stanley Cup popcorn machine, to the X box, tv and even the Open sign that the wish child requested, there was not one detail missed. The Home team truly captured this wish child’s unique personality and this room has become something that he can enjoy with his family and friends for years to come.

Children’s Wish is grateful to the Almonte Home Furniture team who dedicated so much time and effort towards bringing this wish to life and for making the experience so incredibly special for our wish family.
