Empowering health decisions: Community paramedics and advance care planning

Home Hospice North Lanark (HHNL)and Bridging Generations-Age Friendly Pakenham are excited to host an informative and empowering event at the Mississippi Mills Public Library Almonte Branch on Sunday, January 19th, 2025. This free event will feature two expert presentations designed to help individuals and families make informed health decisions.

The first presentation will be delivered by Ruth Dubois, BScN, MA (Counselling), who will discuss the importance of Advance Care Planning. Ruth will guide attendees through the process of making healthcare decisions in advance, helping individuals ensure that their wishes are respected in the event of an emergency or life-limiting illness. This is an important step in securing peace of mind and ensuring that healthcare choices align with personal values.

The second presentation, Community Paramedic Program, will be led by Lanark County Paramedics. This innovative program brings preventive and primary healthcare services directly to residents in their homes, particularly those who are homebound or facing mobility challenges. Paramedics deliver a range of services such as in-home assessments, diagnostics, blood work, vaccination administration, and even palliative care symptom relief. The program is designed to enhance quality of life, improve access to care, and support residents who wish to stay at home instead of being hospitalized.

This event provides a unique opportunity for the community to learn how these essential services can improve health outcomes and empower individuals to take control of their healthcare journey.
