Doc Hanly on Church Street

About 15 years ago local resident Michael Dunn provided me with several hundred historic photos of Almonte and area that he had collected and digitized, to share on my Almonte.com site.

At the time Internet connections were slow and unreliable, so the photos were fairly small and low-resolution. Recently Michael re-digitized the collection, making the images larger and sharper, and I have uploaded them all to the site. The new collection includes 300 photos that weren’t there before.

The result is a treasure trove of local history, over 700 photos and images dating back to the mid-19th century. What is especially interesting is how familiar many of the locales are — much of of our town remains unchanged in its essentials after a century or more.
