For the Birds: Shorebirds

Cheryl

by Cheryl Baxter

Good Monday Morning!

Another slow week in birding for me.  I have been very busy in the last days and haven’t had a chance to really get out there and look for birds.

Thankfully, sometimes they do come to me.  Yesterday my husband called me outside to see a Ruffed Grouse in the tree right next to our deck. He/she seemed quite curious about us. I did manage a few photos.

I thought it would be interesting to share some shorebird photos that I snapped while vacationing in New Brunswick last summer.  We were told about a migratory area for shorebirds while in Alma.  Of course I couldn’t wait to get there to see them.  They were congregated at Mary’s Point.  If you are ever in that area near the end of August, you MUST check it out.  Thousands upon thousands of Migrating Shorebirds.  The way they fly together in unison without knocking a fellow bird out of the air is a mystery to me!  It’s called Murmuration.  Sandpipers and Plovers by the thousands, flying together.  Please enjoy the captures below.

Have a super week of Feathers, Wings and Beaks!
