September 17th marked 175 years of continuous service to Almonte and the surrounding area by the Holy Name of Mary Catholic parish.

The day was celebrated with a morning Mass presided over by Archhbishop Terrance Prendergast, Archbishop of Ottawa. He was assisted by the HNM pastor Rev. Paul J. Gaudet, and former pastors of the HNM parish. Other special guests at the Mass included Mayor McLaughlin, Scott Reid, MP for Lanark- Frontenac-Kingston, and retired  teachers of HNM elementary School. The Knights of Columbus provided an honour guard.

The Mass was followed by a luncheon at the Civitan. The Catholic Women’s League provided flowers and a ceremonial cake which was cut by Archbishop Prendergast and Father Paul with help from parishioners. The service provided by the Civitan to quickly feed 325 people was extraordinary. Many parishioners have remarked that it was an uplifting and excellent day and way to commemorate this significant milestone in the history of the Parish and community.
