Lawn bowling season closes with potluck

Wednesday, 27 September was the final gathering of the Almonte Lawn Bowling Club for 2017. The Club held it’s Annual General Meeting and Pot Luck dinner at their Club, 157 Robert Street, as they ended a successful but very wet season. Their two traditional inter-Club tournaments this summer were cut short due to heavy rains and the hosted Women’s Triples Provincial Championship tournament was also delayed several hours because of inclement weather.

The Meeting and dinner were well attended and once again the ladies of the Club provided an outstanding meal.  This year the Club’s Board of Directors conducted a membership survey requesting information on member’s satisfaction with the Club’s operation and seeking input for next years bowling season.  Over the winter months the Board will work with the member’s suggestions and present ideas for changes at the Spring General Meeting.

During the meeting member Leo Brown was awarded a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ in recognition of his untiring efforts in helping with Club maintenance throughout the season. He joins members Ken Brown and Guy Chaput who in earlier years received similar certificates. These three members are a major force behind a great deal of the Club’s efforts in upgrading and maintaining a first-class lawn bowling Club.

The Club Drawmaster, Bob Thomson, awarded the top prize for the Club’s high Marathon bowling winner to novice Con Cadman while Pauline Kelly won the runner-up prize.

Lawn Bowling is a tremendous sport and the Club operates from May until September each year. All that is required is a flat soled pair of shoes, often normal running shoes will suffice, as the Club provides the remaining equipment. Anyone interested in join this fun loving group may contact, Ann Jones at 613-256-9997 for additional information.
