Mississippi Mills is about to invest in streetlights that Mayor Shaun McLaughlin states will save the town  $68,000 annually in electricity and maintenance. In 2017, 813 old cobra-style streetlights will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lights. The cost, after deducting a provincial grant, will be $305,000 (taken from reserves). The payback period is 4.5 years. The new lights meet the specs of Mississippi Mills’ dark skies by-law. Mayor McLaughlin credits the current and former directors of public works with the success of this initiative.
