On October 1, Mississippi Mills Council approved a motion to send a delegation to Queen’s Park to request the immediate reopening of the Mississippi River Water Management Plan. The plan has been controversial as some say that the maximum water level is too high. On November 22, 2012, the Standing Advisory Committee of the Mississippi River Water Management Plan recommended that the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) reopen the water management plan for Reach 18 of the Mississippi River to determine the cause of the wetland die-off at Appleton,  upstream from Almonte, and to adjust the water management plan where appropriate.

The motion read:

BE IT RESOLVED THAT  the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Mississippi Mills approve sending a delegation to Queen’s Park to meet with the Minister to request immediately reopening the Water Management Plan;

AND FURTHER MORE THAT  the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Mississippi Mills approve Councillors Edwards, McLaughlin, Abbott and the CAO to travel to Queen’s Park to meet with the Minister to present the report.
