OPP proud to showcase Police Week

Everyone in Lanark County can play a leadership role in making our community safer everyone can help fight crime, Inspector Gerry Salisbury said today, as the kick off to Police Week in Lanark County begins next week.

“Our partnership with the community is essential in preventing crime and making our citizens safer”, Inspector Salisbury said. “The Police can’t do it alone. We need the support of every resident of Lanark County”. “Police Week is a great opportunity to engage people in our community on topics such as crime prevention programs, traffic safety and community policing”.

The theme of Police week 2012 is “Leading the way to a safer tomorrow.” Police week runs from May 13 – 19 in Ontario and is dedicated to increasing community awareness and recognition of policing services and strengthening partnerships between police and the community.

Police Week 2012 will be marked in Lanark County with the Lanark County OPP supporting and participating in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

In addition to this year’s theme the OPP also has a number of year round proactive crime prevention programs such as OPP Lock it or Lose it Program – Auto theft prevention, OPP SafeGuard Ontario Property Security Program, OPP Robbery Prevention Program, OPP Community Bear Victim Assistance Program along with the OPP Junior Constable Program Promise.

“Police Week is an opportunity to show our appreciation to our Police Officers and their community partners for all they do keep our communities safe,” said Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services. “Ontario is safer and stronger thanks to our police services and the support of the government and all Ontarians.”
