Reader comments on Don Maynard park

It has taken me awhile to write this letter to you.

I would like to ask you all why did you buy or build where you did, was it for the quiet street, the heritage house, the farm, the parks near by, a safe place to raise a family? Well we built here over 28 years ago because of the park that was designated next to us as did many in this area, we paid extra for our house to be built here as cost of park was passed on to anyone building here. Our boys were small and spent many hours playing in this park, they are grown now and have children of their own who use this park (all 5 of them), they also go to HNOM school. I spend many hours watching them play in the school yard and parks here.

The park has grown since we have moved here and is beautiful with over 25 mature trees not including the natural treeline, birds, butterflies, dragonflies, hummingbirds and animals, and 350 children, what a shame money comes first.

Mr. Gillis, Mr. Ferguson, and Diane Smithson were on council or staff when this park was dedicated to Don Maynard. Who would want this honour bestowed on them knowing that when they died it would be taken away for money and not what it was honoured for? Do you really want this to be your legacy, to dedicate then be taken away, because this will be your legacy and not a good one. What you have proposed will be a shame on you. You will lose all respect and it will be known as the park that deception built. If you have any self pride you will vote NO to the sale of Don Maynard park and park #42.

Honesty, loyalty, integrity and respect.

Do onto others as you would have done onto you.

It saddens me to see what is happening to our once loving close community. Please make this right and restore our confidence in our elected officials. Say No to the sale of Don Maynard Park and Park #42.

I grew up across from the Maynard family and Bev Maynard was a very good friend of mine but sadly she is gone now too; oddly enough I live next to to Don Maynard Park and our families are buried next to each other at Auld Kirk cemetery.

When we dedicate something or someplace you don’t take it away and renaming another Park in Don’s name is not an option, this is his park.

Please say No to this sale.

Thank you for taking the time to read this this
