Local author and Mississippi Mills Councillor Shaun McLaughlin has been awarded 2013 silver medal winner for Historical Literature Fiction – Modern (set 1500-1940 AD) for his first novel Counter Currents . The medal is awarded by Dan Poynter’s Global Ebook Awards. Counter Currents is set around the time of the Patriot’s War that was a last gasp of American and Canadian invaders to overturn the Family Compact that ruled Upper Canada in 1838. It is full of colourful characters, like the real life river pirate Bill Johnston and adventure. The book was also awarded , the highest, by Internet book reviewer, Sharon Cathcart in May 2013 and has just be awarded a place on the Awesome Indies list of quality independent fiction.
