Next week, the Mississippi Mills Community Fund (MMCF) invites residents to gather for A Slice of Paradise, a relaxed, family-friendly evening of pizza, live music, and community connection at the Almonte Community Oven beside the library.
The event takes place on Wednesday, June 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. and is free to attend. Donations are welcome and will help support the Mississippi Mills Community Fund’s community engagement outreach, strengthening the local connections that help people feel seen, supported, and part of something bigger.
At its heart, A Slice of Paradise is about more than sharing a slice of pizza. It is about creating a simple, welcoming space where neighbours can meet, families can gather, and people of all ages can feel connected to the community around them.
The Mississippi Mills Community Fund was created to help grow local giving and support the people, organizations, and ideas that make this community stronger. As a volunteer-run fund, MMCF works to build long-term community capital while also listening closely to local needs, from wellness and belonging to mental health, social connection, and support for grassroots initiatives.
Community plays an essential role in that work. Strong communities are built through relationships, through the everyday moments when people come together, share stories, offer support, and discover common ground. Events like A Slice of Paradise help create those moments. They remind us that belonging does not always begin with a big program or a formal meeting. Sometimes it starts with music, conversation, a warm meal, and an invitation to pull up a chair.
The evening will feature fresh pizza from the community oven, live music, kids’ art tables, and a casual atmosphere in the heart of downtown Almonte. Children will have the opportunity to show us what community means to them by creating their own unique piece of artwork. Everyone is welcome, whether you are a longtime resident, new to the area, a young family, a senior, a caregiver, or simply someone looking for a friendly evening out.
For MMCF, this gathering is also part of a larger commitment to strengthening community relationships across Mississippi Mills. By bringing people together in accessible and joyful ways, the Fund hopes to spark conversation, build awareness, and encourage more people to take part in shaping a caring, connected, and resilient community.
