Ontario Trillium Foundation grant celebrated at Almonte Lawn Bowling Club
Almonte Lawn Bowling Club (ALBC) celebrated the reception of a capital grant for $94,800 from Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) at the Doreen Morgan Memorial Tournament on Tuesday August 16th under sullen skies. The grant money was used to improve club facilities including landscaping, new lighting, purchase of a roller, and the erection of a shed to house greens maintenance equipment.

Attending the event were Jack McLaren, MPP for Carleton-Mississippi Mills, Shaun McLaughlin, Mayor of Mississippi Mills, and Jane Maloney, Chair of District #16, Ontario Lawn Bowling Association. Calvin Murphy, Recreation Director of Mississippi Mills, emceed the proceedings. Jack McLaren acknowledged the hard work that has gone into improving ALBC facilities for social and competitive play, supported by the OTF grant and the Ontario Government. Mayor McLaughlin lauded all members of the ALBC Board, specifically Guy Chaput (President), Ken Brown (Director Maintenance/Greenskeeper), and Cecil DuBois (Director, Grants) for overseeing the achievement of the improvements. Jane Maloney spoke on behalf of the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association, parent organization with which ALBC worked closely to obtain the grant. Ribbon was cut by Shaun McLaughlin in the presence of all tournament participants.

Almonte Lawn Bowling Club is proud to have accomplished its goals for facility improvements ahead of hosting the Governor General’s Lawn Bowling Tournament to take place over the Labour Day weekend, a prestigious event where lawn bowlers from Quebec and Ontario vie for the silver trophy, in place since 1928.
