Almonte resident Chris Loosemore says he has poured his heart, soul and savings into the preservation of the tower of the Dungarvon building on Ottawa Street. The building is a local landmark with beautiful heritage masonry. Mr. Loosemore was hit with a court ordered bill for over $30,000 after the town declared the site hazardous after a complaint of a fallen brick and fenced it off. Mr. Loosemore says there never was a hazard and that the recent 5.1 earthquake centred in Shawville did not move a single stone in the tower. Mr. Loosemore, who lives in the back third of the building says that he has been brought to the brink of bankruptcy trying to preserve the heritage masonry and the tower, but now he has received a demolition permit and will topple the tower.
