Couple shares comments to Council on Don Maynard Park

Honourable mayor and councillors of Mississippi Mills:

I and my wife humbly submit our opinion concerning the proposed plans for blocks 40 (Don Maynard Park) and 42.

We do not want this land to be sold; Don Maynard Park has been developed into a much utilized green space and cannot be considered surplus.  The space occupied by block 42 likewise is very much utilized by the students of Holy Name of Mary school during the school year and by numerous people during evenings and weekends all year round.

These green spaces are a small oasis in the heart of the Gale and Houchiami subdivisions and therefor are easily accessible to more than 200 residences in the area from Ottawa St to Robert Hill St. and from Spring St. to Paterson St.

Don Maynard Park is a quiet park with amenities for quiet, thoughtful reflection, a place to observe mature trees and shrubs up close; it is not a space for energetic activity and this is in contrast to other nearby parks with playstructures, etc.  This parkland is proximal to the new Orchardview senior complex and to the Mills senior centre on Industrial Drive and meets a need for the elderly in this neighbourhood.

Please consider these parcels of land as necessary for the health and well-being of all of the stakeholders in the residential neighbourhood mentioned above.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to ponder this submission.

Yours truly,

John and Sherry Warren
