As mentioned in a previous Millstone story, the granddaughter of famed oceanographer and conservationist Jacques Cousteau is filming three documentaries about the Ottawa River and its tributaries — including our own Mississippi River.
The Mississippi RiverWatchers have confirmed that Alexandra Cousteau, director of the Blue Legacy foundation, will be bringing her film crew to Almonte at the same time as the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup next Saturday, September 21.
The crew is expected to arrive around mid-day to take aerial and ground shots of our river. It’s not certain whether they will be able to film any of the Shoreline Cleanup activities. Still, it’s exciting to know that a prestigious conservation group will be telling the story of our river at the same time.
Cousteau says of the documentary:
The ways in which Canadians are taking action to restore this critical water source carries lessons and inspiration far beyond the [area] the Ottawa river serves… Whether it’s through the work of passionate scientists, dedicated government officials or individual volunteers, the community along the Ottawa river has mobilized to restore and preserve this vital source of life, health and business.
