Don’t head out until you know how you’re getting home

opp_policeThe Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), East Region want to remind anyone who is heading out for a “good time” with friends or family to make sure it stays that way by planning ahead.

Every year, the OPP attend preventablecollisions that cause havoc on our roads and devastation for family and friends.  Being vigilant in ensuring you know how you’re going to get home safely.

So far this year, officers have attended 15 fatal crashes, 3 as a direct result of drinking and driving.  That’s 20%!

Don’t cause unnecessary hardship to anyone else. Plan your entire evening and make arrangement to get home:
• Call a cab
• Designate a driver
• Stay the night

“Police conduct RIDE programs every day at all times of the day and night,” said OPP Inspector Paul Bedard, Manger, Traffic and Marine, East Region. “Enjoy yourself, but be responsible. Everyone will appreciate it.”
