Lawn Bowlers hold successful tournament

Under sunny and cool skies, fourteen teams of lawn bowlers took to the near perfect greens at Almonte on Aug. 1, to compete for the Annual Doreen Morgan Memorial Trophy. Clubs from Galetta, Brockville, Nepean, Highland Park, Elmdale and Almonte were represented. The tournament, hosted by Almonte Lawn Bowling Club, consisted of three twelve end games with breaks for tea and coffee and lunch.

 Competition was stiff with final winners, a team from Brockville LBC, capturing the trophy by only a few points. Members of the winning team included Gene Wanstall, skip, Marie Simpson and Shirley Burns-Nichols. They were presented with the trophy and cash prize by Almonte club president Guy Chaput.

 Other winners were as follows;

three game high runner-up;

Ted Tozer (skip), Sandra Jefferies,Bill Aitken, from Galetta LBC;

two game high winner;

Tessa MacKetchnie (skip), Heather Stevens, Margaret Sutton, Highland Park LBC;

one game high winner;

Les Cassidy (skip), Dave Goff, Joannie Marks;

Consolation prize winner;

Cliff Bennett (skip), Frank Olscamp, Anne Martens, Almonte LBC.

Tournament master for the day was Denis Davignon, Almonte LBC.

 Almonte Lawn Bowling Club, situated on Robert Street, has been in existence for 103 yrs. and boasts a membership of almost sixty bowlers. New members continue to be accepted. All they have to do is show up on any bowling night, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
