The Ontario 55+ Summer Games and the Ontario 55+ Winter Games, delivered in partnership with the Ontario Senior Games Association, are annual celebrations of active living (alternating between Winter and Summer) for Ontarians 55 years of age or older. The Summer Games, first held in Kitchener in 1986, are hosted on even-numbered years in August and attract approximately 1,400 participants. The Winter Games, first held in Collingwood in 2000, are hosted in odd-numbered years in February with approximately 1,000 participants.

Pachi is head cheerleader of Games Ontario events, all of which showcase Ontario athletes competing in multiple sports. These include the Ontario Summer Games and the Ontario Winter Games, the Ontario 55+ Summer Games and the Ontario 55+ Winter Games and the Ontario ParaSport Games.

The North Lanark District Senior Games Association sent a 10 pin bowling team and a skater as well as 2 hockey teams from the Ottawa area to participate in the Ontario Winter games at Huntsville on March 6& 7. Ottawa District was disbanded last year so teams are allowed to play for the nearest district.

The bowling team of Nick Odynski, John Lapensee, Barry Pascoe and Mike Sears captured a silver medal and George Wilson missed winning a bronze in Predicted Skating by 1 second. How close was that! Congratulations to all participants.

The local Senior Games Association is now gearing up for the Summer games even though summer seems far away yet but it will come. The brochures and list of events are being distributed to the local legions, arenas and recreational centers in Almonte, Carleton Place and Beckwith. Registration forms are included and the $20 fee covers all the offered games from April of this year until March of 2020. The games start the last week of April and are over by the middle of June.

On alternate years to the OSGA+55 Summer Games, Regional Games are held with different districts hosting the 1 day event. This year it is our turn so our district hosts the nearly 20 events on August 15 for all of Eastern Ontario. This is quite a challenge but David Cave has been working hard to secure venues and conveners for each event. However we need many volunteers to make it a success so we’d be very happy if you would be willing to help. There is a wide variety of duties for the day so ask any executive member and we’ll find you a job.

The medal winners from the local games are eligible for the August 15 games. This is a great chance to show off our beautiful area since there could be 300-500 people coming. One problem is the registration only ends about a month before so not long to figure it all out. A banquet at the Civitan Hall will end the day with musical entertainment there in the afternoon for hose who finish early.

You can contact David Cave at cavedg@hotmail.com ; Marilyn Snedden at msnedden@storm.ca or Guy Chaput at chapguy1@gmail.com for more info and to volunteer.
