For the Birds: Grumpy Old Man and a Trip on the St. Lawrence.

Good Monday!  Normally I write in the morning, however I had a number of photos to go through that I wanted to share today.  I had a number of great birding experiences in the last several days and I do have a lot to share with you.

Last Monday I was in my yard looking for birds and different opportunities and thought I would take a peek at the Red-winged Blackbird nest I found a week or so ago.  I didn’t actually come upon the nest as I discovered a Red-winged fledgling first! Little homely thing.  He reminded me of a ‘grumpy old man’. You’ll see what I mean in the photos below.  Later on in the day I was in the veggie garden picking snow peas and doing some weeding…(camera on the ready), and I saw a little grumpy old man, errr… I mean, Red-winged Blackbird baby on the fence.  Dad was in the tree nearby making a whole lot of noise.  I have a feeling he was telling mom where the baby was.  I waited for a very long time when suddenly mom shows up with a grasshopper in beak to feed the young one.  At this point I was squatting in my garden with my camera as not to spook the mother bird.  You can see the photo below.

There has been a crazy amount of Common Yellowthroat Warblers in our yard this year.  I hear them almost non-stop all day long.  I managed to capture a few photos of them as well.  (Male, female & a young fledgling.)

One day as I was about to bring my daughter to work, I looked over on the deck as I was about to get into the car and noticed a tiny little Black & White Warbler sitting on one of the chairs.  I assumed he hit our window and was recuperating there.  He flew off shortly after I snapped a few shots.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go on the St. Lawrence River on my Step-dad’s boat.  I really didn’t expect to see anything all that wonderful in terms of birds….however I was pretty wrong.  We got to see a whole lot of Cormorants and a Couple of Osprey nests with Juveniles about ready to fledge.  It was really great to get so close to the Osprey nests as we were on the water right next to the structures that they were nesting on.

Please enjoy all the photos below & have a super week, of Feathers, Wings & Beaks!
