The Meeting: Correction

I made a statement in my synopsis of the August 9, 2016 meeting, in which I stated that I had been there all evening and saw no evidence of harassment, or of threatening behaviour taking place. I judged my response on the events after the meeting, the arrival of the police and events after that.

I was not correct. After a few calls and discussion with an employee of Mississippi Mills, I discovered the truth.  Earlier in the evening after the “recess” by Council, one of the female employees of Mississippi Mills, who was leaving from work by the back door, was approached by a member of the public, who apparently made some questionable remarks. She was left frightened and shaken by the encounter. It is regrettable and inexcusable that this happened.

The intention of the group of people at that meeting, was to impress upon Council, that the ratepayers of Mississippi Mills are becoming increasingly unhappy with the way in which they are managing the Corporation and in particular with the impending sale of the Don Maynard Park, to fund other questionable projects. They wanted Council as a whole, to rethink their obvious decision to sell that Park. Their position was well presented and there was not and should never have been any intention of targeting any individual.

Regards,

Brian J. Gallagher
