Arts & CultureThe Ten Collective at the MVTM

The Ten Collective at the MVTM

by Edith Cody-Rice

If you have not yet seen the Ten Collective Show at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, rush over this afternoon. The show is in its last of two days and  is open until six pm. It is an excellent exhibit, one of the best I have seen there. The Ten Collective is a group of 10 artists: Nancy Young, Lily Swain, Jennifer Noxon, Kaija Savinainen Mountain, Rosemary Leach, Marina Molvada,  Eileen Hennemann, Jill Halliday, Katherine McNenly and Amelia Ah You, all of whom are accomplished and/or award winning painters. The inspiration behind the collective is Eileen Hennemann, an Almonte resident and artist who is also a partner with her husband Alan Stanley in Hennemannn-Stanley design, a visual branding and consulting firm. Some of her paintings have been printed in the Millstone along with the stories behind them.

The works are diverse, including acrylics, oils, watercolour and mixed media, just a few of the best of each artist and they are for sale. I noticed quite a few red dots on paintings as I wandered through the collection. When doors opened on Saturday morning, there was a lineup at the door and the exhibit was packed with art lovers. A worthwhile way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
