Almonte Riverside Trail temporarily closed

by Jordan Smith

The Almonte Riverside Trail, a recreational trail that runs along the Mississippi River between Strathburn Street and James Naismith Way , is temporarily closed to allow the path to dry out. Several sections are quite wet, muddy, or covered in glare ice. To prevent erosion and other damage we’re asking people to please stay off the trail altogether until conditions improve. Hopefully the weather cooperates and the “We’re Closed” signs at the trailheads can come down soon.

Thanks to the generosity of additional private landowners, work is now underway to extend the trail from James Naismith Way to the Mill of Kintail. Stay tuned to http://almonteoutdoors.ca/ for updates on that. The vision is to build a trail all the way to Mt. Pakenham. If you would consider offering land access or introductions to private landowners, please contact me at the address below.
