Reader supports heritage status for Pinehurst

I would like to add my support for the recent article advocating “heritage status” for the Pinehurst property. I had no idea this property had such a historic and distinguished past. I fear we are all too quick in our society to destroy our historical past in favour of development. Certainly the current owner has every right to sell the property. That said, its historic architecture and surroundings should be preserved as is.

The new owner, of course has the right to renovate and modernize the interior but the exterior of the building it’s surroundings and the historic character of the interior architecture must be preserved. We are very fortunate in Almonte to have in our midst a number of historic properties, including churches and homes and other structures which are the envy of big city dwellers and visitors alike. Almonte is known to be one of the most favoured small towns in Canada in which to live.

Let’s keep it that way by preserving our history and heritage. If you agree, then please petition our Mayor and Council to designate the property as a heritage property. Thank you.
