Some years ago I was speaking at a conference at Cambridge University and was staying here at Christ’s College:
One night I went for a walk on St. Andrew’s Street looking for a magazine, and heard a whirring noise behind me and then an odd synthetic voice. It was — yes– Stephen Hawking, the renowned Cambridge physicist who died this month. Professor Hawking was known for his work on the nature of black holes, regions of space with gravitational fields so intense that no matter or radiation can escape.
And I suspect some Millstone emails are disappearing into such places.
We’ve been hearing from more and more people that they’ve sent us items to post, and which we simply have not received. So we’ve set up a new email address, which we hope will be more reliable:

I did stop and say hello to Professor Hawking, of course. After a long-ish pause he said hello back.
