I find it interesting that the Mayor of Mississippi Mills puts forth a graph illustrating the taxes paid by various municipalities; however I see no explanation of what these people are paying for. To compare Perth or Carleton Place to Lanark Highlands means little to me as a taxpayer.
Perth and Carleton Place have paved roads, streetlights, garbage pickup, etc. We in Lanark Highlands (at least where I live) have none of these and yet we pay the equivalent of property taxes paid in The Glebe (Ottawa). Our tax base is the Village of Lanark, a village that has lost most of its businesses over the past few years and the Highlands is one of the largest municipalities in the County of Lanark.
Perhaps if the Mayor put everything into perspective his graphs might not be so rosy.
